Anyone who wanders quietly through the tall grass along the Spreewald canals on a warm summer's day immediately feels the magical aura of this place. The Spreewald is a place of legends and myths. And one of the oldest legends of the Wendish-Sorbian culture is inseparably linked with our hotel.
The Wuźowy Kral and the Gables
Our Sorbian ancestors knew about the instincts of the snakes. When a flood threatened, they were the first to crawl up to the sandy ridges (the so-called Kaupen, which is where the village name Burg-Kauper comes from). If the residents followed their path, they were spared from the high water.
The White Snake with the Golden Crown
The crowned white snake is the centerpiece of our brand logo and is considered a symbol of protection, prosperity, and hospitality.
Are there real snakes in the Spreewald?
You do not need to worry about real venomous snakes here. The grass snake is shy, non-venomous, and a sign of a healthy ecosystem.
